The Department of Innovations and Software Development (DISD) team is very pleased to inform you about a workshop to launch a new mobile open source data collection and communication platform called OpenXdata (http://wiki.openxdata.org/), on Thursday 12th November 2009, at Imperial Royale Hotel Kampala, from 10:00 am to 5:00pm.
The objective of this event is to bring research teams, governments sectors, private practitioners and other stakeholders in the country to discuss the application scenarios of mobile technologies and specifically openXdata for data collection, management and dissemination of information. This workshop will include presentations and discussions about opportunities for mobile applications for business, the features and usage scenarios for OpenXdata, showcasing its use.
OpenXdata has been developed by DISD in collaboration with partners from Europe, the United States, Pakistan and India. Already, this platform has been used in health and education sectors in Uganda and various parts of the world.
Advances in Mobile technologies have opened up new opportunities for business. In Uganda, mobile network coverage is over 80% of the entire country with five major network service providers. Mobile devices (phones, PDAs, Notebooks, etc) are widely used and are increasingly more powerful.
